Forward-thinking business model, leading-edge curriculum.
Curriculum In the AppleTree Educational™ program, seven distinct curriculum areas provide a bedrock foundation for the healthy, whole growth of each child. Our standardized curriculum spans and interrelates between seven subject areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, Science, Geography & Culture, and Art & Music. These curriculum areas are broad and deep, and enable children to develop hand-eye coordination, gross motor control, and cognitive order, support & encourage proper care of the self and of the child’s environment, develop coordination of physical movement and multi-sensory development. They support mastery of mathematical concepts, language development and grammar, children’s literature, and expose students to basics in geography, history, life sciences and earth sciences. Music, art, creative dramatics, and movement education are part of the integrated cultural curriculum. Special occasions such as classroom parties, seasonal festivities, and cultural celebrations become good practice for advancing grace, courtesy and extended socialization. The curriculum is carefully constructed to provide a robust foundation for inspired learning.
The Prepared Environment The “prepared environment” is a classroom designed with intention by the teachers to facilitate maximum independent learning and exploration by the child. In the prepared environment classroom, all of the learning materials are scaled to fit the physical dimensions of a preschooler’s body. The space is usually divided into seven major distinct areas: practical life, sensorial, mathematics, language, science, geography and art. These areas represent the parts of the curriculum. Our curricula are not taught in isolation; instead, they are presented in an interdisciplinary and interactive fashion. The versatile materials in our classrooms reflect this cross-disciplinary approach to teaching. There are spaces for individuals, small groups, and the whole class to meet. In a traditional Montessori environment, much of the work at this stage of development is done individually. In our program, children are also given many opportunities for group activities, group projects, singing and performing. The design of our classrooms is attractive, well-thought out and a superior backdrop for the program.
