Forward-thinking business model, leading-edge curriculum.
AppleTree offers Infant, Toddler, Preschool/PreK/Kindergarten, and After-School programs. Each classroom in each program has a mix of ages; infants are 3 months to 18 months, toddlers are 18 months to 3 years, preschool/prek/kindergarten-ers are 2 ½ to 6 years, and after school children are 6 to 12 years old. Mixing different ages together in a classroom environment benefits all children in a multitude of ways. The younger children see models of more mature behavior and accomplishment to strive for and imitate. The older children have opportunities to develop their potential for leadership, sense of responsibility and reinforce their own knowledge by helping the younger ones. Flexible groupings for learning activities ensure that children can also have opportunities to collaborate with peers who are developmentally similar. All of these learning experiences help to develop joyful, focused, compassionate, creative and curious individuals. In addition to the curriculum of the regular school day, extra-curricular activities include foreign languages, gymnastics, chess, martial arts, dance, drawing, clay and keyboard. Infant Program The infant class consists of 10 to 12 infants ranging from three to eighteen months old with a ratio of one teacher to four infants. The infant’s day begins as soon as he/she enters the classroom. The infant teacher will encourage the child to explore the prepared environment, and begin the day's activities based on the daily infant intake form information filled out by parents. The plan includes the following: feeding, individual toilet-training (if applicable), and attending to the unique needs of the infant. In the outdoor environment (weather permitting) infants can safely crawl, climb, push, pull, and ride on toys, and experience the natural environment, as well as go on buggy walks. The program combines ample individual learning and work time with group activities such as singing, dancing, listening to stories, snacking, and napping. Activities are specifically chosen which promote muscle development, development of motor skills and eye-hand coordination, the use of language and senses, increasing independence, and the building of trust and self-esteem. Toddler Program The toddler class (called the transition room) consists of twelve children from 18 to 36 months with a ratio of one teacher to every six children. The children are involved in many hands-on activities that blend five of the major Montessori curriculum areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math and Art. For this age our teaching focuses on daily life education, personal care, toilet training if need be, language and sensory development, early math concepts, creative arts and crafts, coordination skills, gross and fine motor skills development, emotional development, and building grace and confidence. Preschool/PreK/Kindergarten Program This group consists of 24 children from two and a half through six years of age. There is one lead teacher and one supporting teacher for a ratio of one teacher to twelve students. The daily program in our preschool/prek/kindergarten environment includes the seven distinct Montessori curriculum areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Science, Geography, and Art. The goal of this program is to build academic competency through activities and curriculum that blend individual work time with small group and larger group projects like cooking, cultural studies, and outdoor playtime. The program offers nap or non-nap schedule depending on the child’s energy level. After-School Program The after-school program provides an age-appropriate and structured environment that offers help with homework, foreign language classes (spoken and written language), arts and crafts, cooking projects, special events, and fitness challenges. This program also works to enrich the social skills of the child while also providing support for individual learning endeavors.
